“Ereignishorizont (the album) really does come across as a soundtrack for an ambitious and epic sci-fi film or television series; at nearly 90 minutes it’s more or less complete in itself as a background music work and all that’s needed is a script of equal if not more ambition in its plotting and vision of a future complex urban society with the technology to match. The man behind Schneider TM (Dirk Dresselhaus) can be proud of the work he has done here.” – The Sound Projector (2024)

ABOUT/
SHORT BIO

Schneider TM is a multidimensional music project by Dirk Dresselhaus that oscillates extensively between adventurous electronic pop music and experimental, sometimes improvised freeform music while occasionally bringing these and other opposing elements together.

Schneider TM has been operating since the mid-90s and has released some albums on City Slang / Mute, including singles like Reality Check, Frogtoise, or a cover version of a song by The Smiths called The Light 3000, a collaboration with Kptmichigan that was hugely acclaimed by the alternative media (like John Peel, The Wire, etc.), which have made him credited as one of the main innovators of a music genre called Indietronic.

Since 1997, Schneider TM has performed a couple of hundreds of live concerts around the globe, including renowned international festivals like CTM (Berlin), Sonar Festival / Sonar Sound (Barcelona, Rome, Tokyo), Roskilde-Festival (DK), Mutek (Montreal, Mexico City), Arty Farty (Lyon), Pukkelpop (Hasselt), Hultsfred Festival (Hultsfred), Kilbi Festival (Bad Bonn), Frieze Art Fair / Frieze Music (London), Phonem Festival (Istanbul), Numero Festival (Lisboa), Les Siestes électroniques (Toulouse), Melt Festival (Gräfenhainichen), Midi Festival (Hyéres), Motomix Festival (Sao Paolo), Todaysart Festival (Den Haag), Dark Mofo (Hobart), and others.

Over the years, Schneider TM has produced numerous remixes for artists such as The High Llamas, Boss Hog, The Faint, Lamb, Baba Zula, Lambchop, Pulseprogramming, Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub, Solvent, S.Y.P.H., and many others. Some of them were compiled on the album Reconfigures, which was released in 2004 on the Earsugar label.

Next to composing music for films, radio plays, and theater, Dirk is active in the noise and drone project (die) Angel (w/ Ilpo Väisänen of Pan sonic and guests like Hildur Gudnadottir, Oren Ambarchi, BJ Nilsen, Ulrich Krieger, or Lucio Capece) with releases on Editions Mego, Karlrecords, or Edition Telemark.

After expanding Schneider TM in the direction of instantly composed freeform music, employing varying equipment like processed guitar, modular electronics and sound objects as well as field recordings, this rather abstract and soundscape-y approach resulted in a series of album releases like Construction Sounds, Guitar Sounds, or Con-Struct, a posthumous collaboration with Conrad Schnitzler (all on Bureau B), as well as the experimental guitar double album Ereignishorizont (Karlrecords, 2023) and collaborations with artists like Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten), Damo Suzuki (ex-Can), Zappi W. Diermaier (Faust), Elena Poulou (NOHE NOSHE, ex-The Fall), John Duncan / Chandra Shukla / Scot Jenerik (as The Shape of Minds to Come), Rechenzentrum, Tarwater, Holger Czukay, Murat Ertel (Baba Zula), Gabi Delgado (DAF), krautfuzz, Feedbackorchester, Günter Schickert (Ziguri), Station 17, Sicker Man, Joanna Dudley, Reinhold Friedl (zeitkratzer), video artists like Lillevan, Arthur Schmidt (Gvoon) and Takehito Koganezawa, or Japanese dancer Tomoko Nakasato, and others.

In 2007, Dirk Dresselhaus and Michael Beckett (Kptmichigan) started MirrorWorldMusic, an online platform and label for digital (re-) releases and occasional physical formats, which gradually expanded into a publishing imprint as well as an extensive archive for mutual and related artists, projects, and bands.

For a while now, Dirk has also been moving Schneider TM in the direction of instantly composed freeform music, employing varying equipment like processed guitar & sound objects as well as field recordings and collaborating with artists like Jochen Arbeit (of Einstürzende Neubauten), Damo Suzuki (ex-Can), Werner ‘Zappi’ Diermaier (faust), Günter Schickert, video artists like Lillevan and Takehito Koganezawa or Japanese dancer Tomoko Nakasato. In 2007 MirrorWorldMusic, an online-platform with bandcamp for back catalogue & download only releases was started by Dirk Dresselhaus and Michael Beckett (Kptmichigan) to present past, present & future of their works.
